At The Hunger Coalition, our mission is to build a healthy community through access to good food and address the root causes of food insecurity in collaboration with key partners. In support of our mission and on behalf of the community we serve, The Hunger Coalition strongly opposed the steep budget cuts and damaging program revisions to the SNAP (formerly food stamp) program proposed by the Trump Administration last spring. SNAP is a vital part of our community’s safety net.

Fortunately, we are now relieved to report that our advocacy taken in collaboration with thousands of other social justice organizations has been successful.  The Farm Bill just passed by the Congress rejected the Administration’s harsh proposals and the SNAP program has been saved in its current form, and even improved in minor respects.

We celebrate this victory for food security in our community and our country even as we recognize that activism on behalf of food justice will continue to be essential to ensure that all people enjoy adequate access to good food.
