When we first heard about Bloom, we were excited to try it out. Bloom Truck has a fun learning activity in addition to food and books every week and my kids just love that. What I love most about the program is The Hunger Coalition grows all the vegetables they can locally and they don’t feed us junk food.

In Carey, our grocery store closed, so we only have a convenience store. We don’t have any local produce at all.

We also volunteer at Bloom Farm. I’ve taken my big kids and they were productive. The little kids are more of an adventure but we’ve had fun and tried new foods. We tried kohlrabi for the first time. I even got the kids to eat bok choy. When we volunteer at the Farm, we get to choose from a spread of fresh vegetables. My oldest son, Johnathan, picked out some new herbs. We’d never eaten fresh rosemary before so he found a recipe and made rosemary potatoes.

The first time we went to Volunteer for Veggies, we got a planting schedule of everything that you plant for the year. I actually follow that in my own little garden, so we’ll plant cilantro and we’re planting the cold crops like lettuce and we’re doing another planting because we know that’s what they’re doing at Bloom Community Farm. I just love Bloom. they’re very conscientious about giving us healthy food. It’s a great program.
