our programs: the hope garden

Welcome to The Hope Garden!

planting

The Hope Garden is a 10,000 square foot  productive, organic vegetable and fruit garden located at the corner of Walnut St. and 1st Ave. in downtown Hailey.  Welcoming pathways meander through demonstration beds for home gardens, native landscaping, water-wise plants, cover crops and much more.  True to its original vision, clients and volunteers have worked side-by-side in the arduous process of planning, preparing and planting.  As harvest approaches, all are welcome to lend a hand with the knowledge that all produce will go directly to those most in need in our community - the individuals and families experiencing hunger.

Introducing "Language In The Garden" ~ A special program beginning August 2nd!

Just as plants need tending, so do our language skills.  Join us for a special series of gatherings at The Hope Garden this summer.  Improve your Spanish language skills and understanding of another culture in an outdoor classroom.  Clients and Volunteers will work side-by-side in the garden while exchanging knowledge of both language and culture.  Groups will spend equal amounts of time conversing in both English and Spanish.

For more information, please contact Lorena Horne  at 788-0121x. 303 or email: lhorne@thehungercoalition.org

Special Thanks to the Nancy Eccles & Homer M. Hayward Family Foundation!

We were awarded stewardship of an empty lot in march of this year.  Plants and seeds needed to go into the ground by early June.  Thanks to an incredible $28,500 grant from the Eccles & Hayward Family Foundation, we have a beautiful garden to share with everyone in our community and are already harvesting fresh herbs and produce for those experiencing hunger!  This generous gift directly supported the implementation of the garden and enabled us to move forward with out delay!

The Hope Garden Wish List:

We rely on contributions from the community in the form of garden tools, plant materials, and hands-on garden work.  Please take a moment to review our WISH LIST to see if there are any items you can donate to our efforts!

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does The Hope Garden do for Blaine County?  The Hunger Coalition  has transformed an empty lot into a beautiful community asset for all to enjoy.  Everyone is welcome to join us for hands-on experience with gardening techniques, water -wise planting, and community building as we work side-by-side throughout the spring, summer & fall.  The Hope Garden offers a place for clients to contribute their time and energy, giving them an opportunity to help themselves and help others.  All produce harvested at the Garden goes to feed the hungry in our community.  It is distributed through our Mobile Food Bank, providing vital nutrition and fresh food for more than 300 individuals and family members every week.  The Hope Garden contributes to the health and well being of our entire community.
  • Where does the funding for The Hope Garden come from?  The Hunger Coalition, together with the support and generosity of individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout our community, will oversee all aspects of this project.   We are looking for volunteers, donations of materials and equipment, as well as fundraising for cash contributions of every size.
